Lukas Harrison Garberg
My name is Lukas Garberg, and I’m currently a senior at the University of Southern California pursuing a BFA in Theater Design. I’m a Scenic and Projections designer, and I have years of experience in theater production. I love people and I love storytelling. Theater is the perfect marriage of these two things. Coming together with peers to pick apart a text and create something beautiful out of it is a process that continues to be endlessly rewarding. As a designer, storytelling and creating an emotional resonance through the environment is a craft that I always have, and always will, think is the coolest thing ever.
I have designed 11 shows within the last four years, and assisted and worked on many more. I am a thorough researcher and I can render, make models, draft, make paint elevations, budget, and problem solve anything that comes up in the design process. I have carpentry experience as well; I can build flats and platforms reliably. More notably, I have a lot of experience as a painter from working in two shops and helping out with productions over the years. I have wood grained and wood grained and wood grained. I can do clean gradients, marbling, stencils, and I’m an eager learner for anything I haven’t encountered yet. I believe my time in the shop makes me a better designer and I believe my time as a designer makes me a better shop worker. At the end of the day, it all comes down to taking pride in your work and dedication to creating a quality product.
